Two men admit role in Norwich shooting

Police have confirmed that two men have admitted their part in a shooting in Norwich last summer.

On 27th June 2018, a 19-year-old man from London was shot in the backside near Adelaide Street.

The incident sparked a wide-scale investigation involving forensic searches of the scene, as well as house-to-house and CCTV enquiries.

Witnesses described hearing an argument before seeing a small white car drive away from the area, within a day officers pulled over a vehicle matching the description as part of a routine stop.

Inside, they found items including a balaclava and knife, which led to the arrest of 18-year-old Kallum Eastall and 26-year-old Jake Brittain.

They both admitted to possession of a firearm with intent to commit robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a knife. They denied charges of attempted murder.

On the second day of their trial yesterday, 2nd July, at Norwich Crown court the pair pleaded guilty to the lesser charges, but neither would admit to firing the gun.

Senior Investigation Officer, Detective Inspector Chris Burgess from Norwich CID, said: "Serious violence involving guns is not common place in Norwich or Norfolk, so at the time of this incident the community were understandably shocked by what had happened.

"It is pleasing to see that both defendants have admitted their part in the attack; although neither will admit to pulling the trigger.

"That said, the judge has indicated Eastall and Brittain will be facing prison sentences so will no longer pose a threat to the community."

The pair, of no fixed address, have been remanded in custody until sentencing on 9th September.

Police say that no further action will be taken on two others arrested in connection with the incident.
