Graham Lewis

News, weather, travel, showbiz and everything that is North Norfolk. Graham Lewis mixes it all together for your afternoon.

Graham's passionate about his home area of North Norfolk having lived here all his life and loves getting involved in debates on The Talk of North Norfolk.

It was during the 1980's that Graham really discovered music making him a great fan of the decade from New Wave to some of the cheesy classics you'll hear popping up every now and again, especially during Essential 80's on a Saturday!

Graham's Q & A

What other jobs have you done?
I’ve been in broadcasting since I was 19, so a long time (you’ll need more than your fingers to add up those years) However before that I did train as an electronics engineer and even worked as a painter for a few weeks (unfortunately I got more on me than the walls)

Is there any job you wouldn’t do?
Well I’m not very good at anything physical, or anything which involves heights, or confined spaces come to that.

What was your worst nightmare?
Volunteering for an adventure camp, then being asked what I wanted to do – go caving or on a 10 mile run (see above!)

What’s your favourite part of North Norfolk?
That’s just so hard to answer. Well being raised here means that the River Glaven at Letheringsett holds loads of memories. I also love walking along Cromer Pier when there’s a biting wind, just looking North and thinking there’s no land that way until the North Pole!

What’s your favourite hobby?
Oh another tough one, couple of things I think. Firstly I love everything technical, so I’m always pulling gadgets to pieces. I’m building a computer out of old parts at the moment just for the challenge. The only problem is that I keep buying extra bits of ebay. The other main hobby is photography. I used to do all my own developing and processing, but now digital means you can concentrate more on getting a really good picture, I’ve even had my pictures in the EDP which I am quite proud of!

So what music do you like?
Most things as long as they’re loud! I am a massive 80’s fan. Blondie has to be my favourite artist of all time, with Parallel Lines my number one album. I was also once a member of the “Abba Fan Club” and I am incredibly jealous of one friend who has actually met the band. Other than that I think that Mark Ronson is a great talent and Madonna is just such a great artist I love her 80’s stuff and Hung Up was my top song of 2006.

Do you have any secret ambitions?
Yes I’ve always wanted to release a record. There’s one major flaw in this plan. I can’t sing.

Who's the biggest celebrity you've met?
Sir Paul McCartney. I met him in Fakenham when he came to open the factory with Linda. He didn’t act like a star and he was really down to earth and had time for everyone. I met Maggie Thatcher while she was Prime Minister – she was exactly like you see her on TV.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened when you’ve been interviewing someone?
Well I interviewed Jools Holland backstage at Thetford Forest and then he invited me onto the stage with him, but the funniest was when I was interviewing the Transport Minister who had just opened the Narborough bypass on the A47. We did the interview in the middle of the road, and then the traffic started to come from behind me. I was blissfully unaware – but he could see it heading towards us and did a runner!

Do you have any pets?
Yes I have a dog – Izzy – she’s a whippet. I was badgered into getting her by the family. Now though (and don’t tell them) I wouldn’t be without her.
