Infant Learning

Parents of babies in north Norfolk are being given the chance to discover how their infants learn in a special course at selected Norfolk County Council’s children’s centres.
The free six-week course is helping parents explore how their child’s brain develops and how their baby’s early experiences can shape their development.
The aim is to help boost parenting skills by giving mums and dads the information they need to support their child’s early learning.
The course, entitled How Babies Learn is being run by Aylsham based company Hand in Hand Learning and will be available to pregnant women (up to 34 weeks pregnant) and their partners, as well as parents with children up to the age of 18 months.
It will be available in the Dereham, Holt, Wells, Reepham, Broadland and Aylsham areas and numbers are limited.

Cantamus Community Choir

Cantamus Community Choir (based at St Margaret’s Church, Thorpe Market) are now preparing for the restart of their Autumn 2010 Programme on Thursday 9th September at 7.30 pm.
This friendly choir of forty adults meet weekly throughout the winter months to sing for their own pleasure and to prepare concerts which are usually held in Thorpe Market Church. Whilst a few members are experienced choral singers the majority would describe themselves as novices. There is no audition and we provide all the music. We always have a break in mid-rehearsal for a hot drink and chat. The main emphasis is on fun.

A "Scraptastic" event takes place in Briston on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September between 10am and 4pm at the Church and Copeman Centre
See items made solely from scrap and recycled goods including Noah's ark, and the Teddy Bear's Picnic.

Churches Trust - Cycle Ride and Walk

This year's Norfolk Churches Trust annual Cycle Ride and Walk takes place on Saturday 11th September between 9am & 5pm.
More than 600 churches and chapels will be open across Norfolk and the Ely border.
Most will have people to welcome visitors and many will have refreshment available for riders and walkers.
This event provides the major part of the Trust's income to make grants to churches and chapels to maintain them and keep them in order.

Community Garage Sale

A Community Garage Sale will take place in Foulsham & Bintree on Saturday 11th September from 9am
Its raising funds for the Foulsham & Bintree Playgroup and The New Frost Hall.
There will also be a table top sale at The New Frost Hall for anyone outside the villages who wants to take part (£5 a table). That finishes at 1pm.
Maps on sale from Friday 10th September at Foulsham Village Stores & Foulsham Post Office.
They are available on the day at New Frost Hall and St Swithin's Church.

Ingworth Trosh

This year's Ingworth Trosh is being held on Sunday Sept 12th from 1pm.
It's on a local farm and includes threshing and also ploughing demonstrations, vintage farm machinery, classic vehicles and motorbikes.
There will also be sideshows and various atttractions from raptors to model aircraft and from the East Coast Truckers to horse and cart rides.
Admission is £3. Children free. Profits will go towards the upkeep of the three medieval churches of Ingworth, Erpingham and Alby.

Holt Football Match

Holt Safer Neighbourhood Team have organised a fun day to bring the whole community together on Sunday 12th September from 12.30pm at the Holt Sports and Social Club
The event will include a raffle, competitions, refreshments, bouncy castle, a BBQ and much more.
Police in Holt are also challenging youngsters to play against them at a special football match – to prove their fancy footwork is as good on the pitch as it is on the beat.
There will be 5-a-side matches taking place throughout the day with money raised going towards local youth clubs and Sports Relief.

Bowls and Fun Day - West Runton

There's an annual bowls open triples competition and fun day in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance on Sunday 12th September.
It's at the West Runton social club in Water Lane and the Bowls Club on Cromer road.
The bowls contest starts at 9-45 am. Cost is £8 per bowler to include a hog roast and sweet at lunchtime. The cost for non-bowlers is £6. All are welcome.

Seething Charity Airday

The Annual Charity Airday will take place this year on Sunday 12th September from 10am
This will be the 10th Annual Charity Air Day to be held in its current format, and if one anniversary isn't enough 2010 is the 50th of the flying club at Seething Airfield.
Once again the principal charity will be the East Anglian Air Ambulance and they will be joined by the Help for Heroes charity who do a fantastic job in helping injured service personnel.
There will be spectacular displays, vintage military vehicles and classic cars, and family friendly stalls and attractions. It really will be a great day out for all the family, with a chance to win a free flight.

Charity Plough Marathon

The North Norfolk Vintage Tractor Club is holding a 12 hour ploughing marathon on Sunday Sept 19th to raise money for children's charities.
It will start at 6am just off the A149 Cromer Road opposite Focus DIY at North Walsham.
Thirty-two vintage tractors wil be taking part. There will be an official opening at 11am and the day will include other events plus refreshments.
The event will raise money for Quidenham Children's Hospice and the IDEALeague, for support of children with Dravet Syndrome.

Norfolk and Waveney Prostate Cancer Support Group

The Norfolk and Waveney Prostate Cancer Support Group is offering up to 250 men, over the age of 45, a free test.
The test – known as the PSA test – is a blood test. It does not show whether the man has prostate cancer, but it gives an indication as to whether further tests might be advisable.
The event will take place at the Community Centre, Fakenham, on Thursday 23rd September and has beenn organised as part of a nationwide screening programme

Local Charity, The Matthew Project, is holding their first Sponsored Walk on Saturday 25th of September in the beautiful surroundings of Sheringham Park on the North Norfolk Coast.
Visit www.matthewproject.org/walk to register by the 5th of September for just £5 per person (£15 family rate, under 5 years go free). Choose between 3, 5 and 10km routes. Start time from 10am with all walks to be completed by 4pm.
The event is family and dog friendly and there will some great things to do on the day including climb the gazebo for a 360 degree view and take part in activities for the family
All monies raised will go towards the work of The Matthew Project working with all members of the community affected by drug and alcohol related issues and delivering inspiring education to young people helping them to make safer life choices.

Taste Adventure

On the morning of Saturday 2nd October, Aylsham Town Hall will be welcoming children, up to 12 years old and accompanied by an adult, to take part in The Taste Adventure where they will be invited to visit the five Sense Zones: Seeing, Touchy, Noisy, Smelly and Tasty. For each zone there is a tabletop activity which will bring the sense to life and enable the children to explore the use of that sense in relation to food. In the Touchy zone, for example, the children will be asked to reach inside a series of boxes and feel the contents. Through touch, they will be asked to identify foods that have different textures.
There will be a Taste Adventure Passport for each child to mark down their answers for each of the five zones, with prizes for the most accurate.
Entry for The Taste Adventure is completely free - just turn up any time between 10am and 2pm - but only children with an accompanying adult will be able to take part.
